A leading manufacturer of high-precision, micron level, manufacturing equipment needed a way to precisely align four plates to a common frame prior to attaching the plates. They developed a concept using machine vision, but did not have the expertise to implement the solution. Omnix was selected, based on our experience and past systems, to design and implement a vision system for aligning these plates with micron accuracy. The system consisted of ten cameras to determine position and rotational information of each plate and the frame. Adjustments to the plates were handled by interfacing to TCP/IP based motion control system. In addition to the alignment, we provided further access to the motion system in order to minimize the number of machines that an operator has to interface with.
